African Sojourn...

A freind of mine just recently took off for a month-long trip to Africa, and while I know this certainly won't be his experience while he's there, I took the liberty of collecting images of my own version of what it might be like to live in Africa. I'm sorry if its so cliche, but just bear with me on this one...

...as with most things, I like things that adhere to a very specific aesthetic. Theres a certain richness in textures, materials and uniqueness that really makes me covet a room like this. You can almost just smell the sun-baked earth wafting in over the grass plains through the open rooms, mingling with the scent of cedar furniture and the scent of those leather sofas...

...I think its that whole travel aesthetic I'm most drawn to. Sort of that eclectic mix of antique steamer trunks, cast-iron bed-frames, and low ceilings...I love low ceilings, they make me feel less short and instill a certain sense of intimacy of space...

...I've always sort of had a thing for that whole safari aesthetic...Inspires adventure...

...While I can't say I'd easily sleep in a tent not raised ten feet up off the ground in the Sub-Saharan continent, I really found this photo the most evocative of that picture perfect African Safari Tent. While it certainly may not be an accurate depiction of how most people travel in Africa these days, it was this photo that made me want to pack a steamer trunk, don a Leather Bomber jacket and catch the next Plane to Nairobi...
